Calorie calculator for women: maintenance calories and BMR
Work out a rough estimate of your daily energy needs: your maintenance calories and your BMR. No account, no name, no email. It's all calculated in your browser, and we don't send your data anywhere.
What do the numbers mean?
Maintenance calories: at the activity level you choose, this much energy should roughly keep your weight where it is now. The table under your result shows the estimate for every activity level, so you can see how much your daily movement changes it.
BMR, your basal metabolic rate, is the energy your body uses at rest. The calculator works it out with the Mifflin-St Jeor formula from your age, weight, height and sex, then multiplies it by your activity level to get your maintenance calories. It's an estimate, not a prescription.
Questions about the calculator
How do I work out how many calories I need as a woman?
Enter your age, your weight in kilograms, your height in centimetres and your activity level, and choose female. The calculator estimates your BMR with the Mifflin-St Jeor formula, then multiplies it by your activity level to give your maintenance calories.
What's the difference between BMR and maintenance calories?
BMR is the energy your body uses at rest. Maintenance calories add your daily activity on top, so they're always the higher number: roughly what keeps your weight where it is now.
Is this calculator accurate?
It gives a rough estimate based on a widely used formula, not a measurement. It is not medical advice or individual dietary advice. If you have a chronic condition, are pregnant or breastfeeding, take medication or have specific nutritional needs, check the result with a doctor or dietitian.
